First Audition - SAB

Emma's first dance audition was on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. I wanted to put the memory down asap because there is only one first. We had incredible weather - snow (cancelled school), icy roads and rain. A lot of rain. I can only imagine my face when I saw Liz' foot drop down into a puddle about 5 inches deep as we came up from the subway stairs. But we did it - we made it to the School of American Ballet in NYC, the Rose Building, next to The Juilliard School. Liz, her daughter, Siobhan, Emma and me. I was just in awe of the fact that we were there and that the girls were auditioning for the summer intensive - they fixed their hair, stretched a bit, pinned on their numbers(93) and then the moms were shooed away. We had coffee in the Juilliard/SAB cafe, watched these talented students coming in and out, then made our way back to the lobby where I sat mesmerized watching a boy's class with the piano music so melodiously lilting out the door. I realized then that in a few years I could see Emma being there, staying there, or perhaps in another summer program. It was a learning experience for me, a time for growing. On Sunday, Emma will audition for the second time - Princeton's ARB. Last time this year I was surprised to realize that she would be old enough to audition. This year, I'm ready!

5th Grade Field Trip

The fifth grade field trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty is one of my favorite events. I am always inspired by this special lady - the hopes, the dreams, the opportunities, the courage... and I love the trip with my special fifth grader, my Harry and his friends. The boys' favorite time, I would have to say, was playing tag in the grassy area on the island. It was such a beautiful sight for me, see the picture below.

One Word

One word
Is all I need to say exactly how I feel
One word
A single word that's from the heart and keep it real
One word
And baby I know this one fits you to a tee
One word
All I can say is amazing

I been married 19 years today to my love.
I love you, Rob.

Cold butter chunks in my warm comfort oatmeal

a playlist of my favorite songs...Harry's hand on the schoolbus window...Meg's everyday-reading-achievements...Emma's class doing the fancy horse prance on pointe... my husband's welcoming outreaching arms, an invitation to the warmth on the couch...

9/10

Every holiday, I run to the 911 Memorial in Bucks County. It's about twice my usual run, it's the least I can do to pay my respects. Last year, I ran to the Memorial on 9/10. I met a woman there who was sitting alone on a bench. She was at first on her phone. We then spoke and she told me that she got up that morning and thought that the day was 9/11 and that was what brought her here. I asked if she would be back the next day and she said she didn't know. I asked if I could give her a hug and so we did and we had a few tears. I wonder if she will again come to the Memorial on 9/10... I hope she will, I will be there...
